Privacy policy
Watchu Want helps you keep track of the TV shows and movies you watch. This policy explains what the app stores, where, and what you can do about it. Questions: privacy@nutritrackai.eu.
Without an account
You can use Watchu Want without signing in. Your library (the shows you track, the episodes and movies you've watched and when, your ratings and notes, your lists, archived shows and rewatches) and your preferences stay on your phone only. We receive none of it.
With an account
If you create an account, we process:
- Your email address and password, handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We never see your password.
- Your library, synced to our server (api.tellos.pt) so you can use it on more than one device: tracked shows, watched episodes and their dates, movies on Want to see and Watched with their dates, your ratings and the private notes you add to them, your custom lists, archived shows, rewatches, your favourite shows, the titles you marked “Not interested” in Discover, and your language choice.
- Your calendar link, only if you make one: a private address that shows the dates of your tracked shows and Want to see films in your calendar app. Anyone with the link can see those dates and nothing else; making a new link turns the old one off.
We use this only to run the app: sign you in, back up your library and sync it between your devices. The legal basis is the contract with you (providing the service you asked for).
What stays on your phone
Theme, where-to-watch country and notification settings, and notification scheduling, never leave your device. Notifications are created on the phone; we don't send push notifications.
Usage statistics (optional)
When you first open the app we ask whether we may count that it’s in use. It’s off unless you allow it.
If you allow it, at most once a day the app tells our server that it was opened, with a random number created on your phone and the app’s version. We store that number, the day and the version. We don’t store your account, your email or your IP address with it, and it says nothing about what you watch or do in the app. (The web server’s normal access logs, described under “This website”, apply to this request as to any other.)
We use it only to count how many installs are in use and which version they run. Nothing is shared with anyone. The legal basis is your consent.
Change it any time in Account → Preferences → Usage statistics. Turning it off deletes the number from your phone, so earlier entries can no longer be connected to it. Entries are deleted after 13 months.
Services the app talks to
- TVmaze (tvmaze.com): show search, episodes and air dates. The app asks TVmaze directly, so TVmaze sees your IP address and what you search for. It doesn't receive your account or library.
- TMDB (themoviedb.org): movie search and details, where to watch, and Discover's trending lists and suggestions. These requests go through our server, so TMDB doesn't see your IP address.
- OMDb: IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic ratings. Our server asks for them, so OMDb never sees your phone or account.
- Google Firebase Authentication: sign-in, as described above.
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany): encrypted backup storage. It holds only encrypted files that it cannot read.
- Google Play: installs and updates the app under Google's own terms.
This website
watchu.app sets no cookies. To count visits it uses Matomo, which we run on our own server: no cookies, IP addresses shortened before they are stored, and nothing shared with anyone. If your browser sends Do Not Track, your visit isn’t counted. If you pick a language, your browser remembers it on your device. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, page and time) for security, deleted after 14 days. The app’s only statistics are the optional usage count described under “Usage statistics”.
What we don't do
No ads, no statistics in the app beyond the optional count above, no tracking across apps or websites, and we never sell or share your data.
How long we keep it
Your account and synced library are kept until you delete them. Deleting your account removes your library from our server and your sign-in from Firebase immediately. Data kept only on your phone is removed when you uninstall the app.
The optional usage count isn’t linked to an account, so deleting your account doesn’t remove its entries; they are deleted on their own after 13 months.
Backups. Every night we make an encrypted backup of the libraries and usage counts stored on our server and keep it for 7 days with Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany (EU). Only we can decrypt it. Data you delete, including a deleted account, can remain in these backups for up to 7 days before it's gone for good.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or erase your data, or object to how we process it. Delete your account and data in the app (Account → Delete account and data) or see how to delete your account. For anything else, email privacy@nutritrackai.eu. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Portugal that's the CNPD (cnpd.pt).
Children
Watchu Want isn’t directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
